A quarterly event since 2006, the Washington County Riverboat Foundation announced this week their Municipal Grants. Receiving some of that second-quarter funding were the cities of Kalona and Wellman.

A grant in the amount of $61,972.13 went to Kalona, while Wellman was awarded $36,356.99. WCRF’s Municipal Grant Program distributed more than $330,000 this quarter, and has given nearly $16 million in city grants since the Riverside Casino opened in 2006. Kalona has now received over $2.8 million from the program and Wellman has been the beneficiary of more than $1.6 million.

Eight Washington County cities are awarded Municipal Grants based on population, and the funding is programmed by each respective city council. WCRF is the non-profit license holder for the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort, which provides the entirety of its funding.
