The Sigourney Savages split a pair of softball games at a tournament in Ottumwa Saturday. Sigourney dropped Game One to Southeast Polk 9-0, coming up with just one hit against the 10th-ranked team in the state in Class 5A and seeing the Rams score four runs each in the second and third innings.

The Savages were still scoreless for the first six frames of Game Two against Solon, but they turned around a 1-0 deficit with a three-run sixth inning and would go on to win 3-1.

Carly Goodwin bashed her sixth home run of the season for Sigourney on her way to two runs batted in and a team-high two hits. The senior also pitched all six innings against Solon and gave up no earned runs on three hits while picking up 10 strikeouts.

Junior Dani Aller added a hit and a run scored as the Savages, ranked sixth in Class 1A, end the regular season with a record of 20-7.

Sigourney will begin the postseason Wednesday night when they take on either Iowa Valley or Belle Plaine in the Class 1A Region 7 quarterfinals. You can hear Savage playoff softball on KCII starting with pregame coverage at 6:30 p.m.
