Two area 2A baseball teams travel to Anamosa for District semifinal action Tuesday on KCII. Game one of the twin bill features the second seeded Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and the third seed Mediapolis Bulldogs. Mid-Prairie is 19-9 on the season, finishing as 13-5 champions of the River Valley Conference South Division. They are ranked No. 14 in Class 2A in the final poll of the year issued by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. They dropped their last game before the tournament 5-4 to No. 2 in Class 1A Burlington Notre Dame Wednesday. This year, the Hawks hit .306 as a team with a .458OBP and .387 slug, scoring 200 runs on 219 hits with 169 walks and 160 strikeouts. Five players in the lineup are hitting .300 or better led by Tatem Telfer at .382 with a team best 34 hits and 31 RBI. Brady Weber leads with 27 runs scored. Those two, along with Bowen Burmeister, Brock Harland and Luke Traetow are all over .300. On the mound the Mid-Prairie staff ERA is 3.12 with a .235 opponent average on 167 hits, 81 earned runs and 220 strikeouts. Telfer is 5-1 with a 1.95ERA. Burmeister, Weber and Pence have combined for 10 wins on a three ERA.

Third seeded Mediapolis is 20-7 this season, runners up in the South Division of the Southeast Iowa Superconference with an 8-3 record. They were 8-0 winners in Saturday’s opening round over West Burlington. On the year the Bulldogs hit .264 as a team with five players over .300 led by Lance Ludens at .352 with a team best 27RBI. Jackson Hutcheson leads with 30 runs scored and 29 total hits. On the mound, MEPO has a team ERA of 1.96 with a .149 opponent average on 117 hits, 50 earned runs and 204 strikeouts. Ludens and Kyler Crow are a combined 12-2 with an ERA of 1.20. Mediapolis won the last meeting between these two schools 5-4 in 2016.

In the nightcap the fourth seed Winfield-Mt. Union/Columbus baseball team meets the host Anamosa Blue Raiders. WMU/Columbus is 9-11 this year, finishing 4-6, fourth in the North Division of the Southeast Iowa Superconference. They were a 4-1 Saturday winner in their district opener against Louisa-Muscatine. This year, they are hitting a combined .302 with a .402OBP and .369 slug with 99 runs on 160 hits 69 walks and 132 strikeouts. Four in the lineup are hitting over .300 led by Riley Kaalberg at .431 with 28 total hits and 16 runs scored. Cole Milks has a team best 18 driven in. Those two along with Trevor Phillips and Tyson Kaalberg are over .300. On the mound the WMU/Columbus ERA is 3.89 as a staff with a .194 opponent average on 123 hits, 73 earned runs and 137 strikeouts, led by Cael and Trevor Phillips who combined to go 7-5 this year with an ERA of 2.75.

Anamosa is 18-9 this year, finishing 6-6, fourth in the North Division of the River Valley Conference. They are ranked No. 11 in the final Class 2A poll of the year from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. This season, they hit .274 as a team with a .419OBP and .375 slug, scoring 168 runs on 198 hits with 145 walks and 131Ks. Individually, five players hit .300 or better, led by Carter Kuehl at .368 with 28 total hits and 22RBI. Miken Wheeler has scored 33 times. On the mound the Anamosa ERA is 2.45 with a .221 opponent average on 155 hits, 63 earned runs and 181 strikeouts. Vince Diers, Jackson Waters, Carson Vargason and Wheeler are a combined 12-6 with a 3.37. This is the first all-time meeting between the two schools. The winner of each end of the doubleheader will play Saturday for the District 10 Championship.
