At the end of May, the State of Iowa became free from drought for the first time in four years. After continued bouts of rain throughout the summer, these conditions have persisted.
The U.S. Drought Mitigation Center rates drought on a scale ranging from D1, or moderate drought, to D4, exceptional drought. As of Thursday, a small portion of Clinton and Scott counties was classified as D0, or abnormally dry. More than 99 percent of the State, including the entirety of the KCII listening area had no drought conditions to report.
While Iowa enjoys its best soil moisture since 2020, temperatures are expected to reach the lower 90s over the weekend. To view drought-related data in your county, the rest of the state, or the rest of the country, click here.
