Tuesday night won’t soon be forgotten in Sigourney, as Savage baseball and softball each qualified for the 2024 State Tournament.

Happening within minutes of each other, the Sigourney boys clinched first, knocking off Burlington Notre Dame 4-2 in Fairfield. Eighth in the final IHSAA rankings, the Savages are 21-4, South Iowa Cedar East Champions, District 12 Champions, and now own the Substate 6 title for the first time in program history. Led by Head Coach Lee Crawford, who earned his 300th win Tuesday night, the Savage boys begin the 2024 1A Baseball State Tournament facing off with Lynnville-Sully in Carroll.

It took a few more innings for Savage softball to punch their ticket to Fort Dodge Tuesday, but the girls got it done at home 2-1 over Wapello in 11. Sixth-ranked Sigourney is 23-7, fresh off its fourth-consecutive South Iowa Cedar Title under Shelly Streigle. It’s also their second-straight appearance in the State Tournament, winning one of their two games in Fort Dodge last year. Awaiting the Savages in the Class 1A State Quarterfinals on Tuesday, July 23 is undefeated Remsen-St. Mary’s.
