Three players that have been leaders for Sigourney Savage softball on their way to the state tournament have earned postseason accolades, as senior Carly Goodwin and juniors Ava Fisch and Josephine Moore have been named All-South Central District in Class 1A by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Goodwin earned her third straight all-district selection after another dominant season. The senior has a 21-2 record as a pitcher and a 0.33 earned-run average that is fifth in Class 1A while also racking up over 330 strikeouts.
This season has also arguably been Goodwin’s best as a hitter, as she leads Sigourney with a .495 batting average and 39 runs batted in while also coming up with 13 doubles and six home runs.
In addition to being an all-district honoree, Goodwin will also play for the White team in the ICGA Seniors All-Star Games this coming Saturday in Waukee.
Moore is top 10 in the state with 10 homers and has 37 RBI while hitting .413, while Fisch had a .384 average, five triples and a team-high 31 runs scored. Head coach Shelly Streigle has also been named Coach of the Year in the South Central District.
Behind their all-district players and coach, the Savages have gone 23-7 and reached the state tournament for a second straight season and the third time in the last four years.
Sigourney takes on Remsen St. Mary’s in the Class 1A quarterfinals tomorrow night. You can hear Savage softball at the state tournament on KCII tomorrow evening starting with pregame coverage at 7 o’clock.
