The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced this week it will receive a donation for its K9 program.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a non-profit organization, which as the name suggests, works to assist dogs of law enforcement and related agencies. Their donation to the Sheriff’s Office will help their K9 Kalo get a bullet and stab protective vest. Kalo’s vest will also be embroidered to commemorate Hobbs, a Des Moines Police Department K9 who passed away from a sudden illness last December.

Since it was established in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided more than 5,700 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million. Each vest is custom-fitted and open to dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed in law enforcement or a similar agency.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office should receive the vest in the next eight to ten weeks. For more information about Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., click here.
