A hunter education course for ages 11 and up will be held at the Langwood Education Center in Wapello during the first full week of August.

Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license. The first of two classes will be on Thursday, August 8 from 6-9 p.m. The second is Saturday, August 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The course teaches basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws, and firearm/archery safety. As of Friday afternoon, 19 of the 50 slots for the course had been filled.

Earlier this year, the Louisa County Instructors were named as the Statewide Hunter Education Teaching Team of the Year by the Iowa Hunter Education Instructors Association. To register for the Louisa County Hunter Education course, click here.
