While the new Keota Aquatic Center has been a welcomed addition to the City, the need for parking nearby was evident. Those concerns are now in the past, thanks to a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.

Back in May, the City of Keota was the recipient of a WCRF Spring Grant in the amount of $36,200. A good portion of that went into adding security lighting and a PA sound system at the pool. With the remaining funds, the City has spent the last several weeks constructing a new parking lot just west of the Aquatic Center on South Fulton Street.

City Administrator, Alycia Horras, told KCII that a parking lot was badly needed in that area, and praised organizations like WCRF and the Keokuk County Community Endowment Foundation for supporting projects like this. “This is huge for our community. We’re a very proud community just like any of them. To be able to have that support and people as excited about our additions and our successes here, it’s huge. I just can’t say enough about those groups for helping us in that way.”

The Keota Aquatic Center is located at 501 South Fulton Street.
