As the 2024-25 school year approaches, all Iowa students entering kindergarten and ninth grade are required to have a dental screening. Washington County Public Health will be holding two free dental screenings this month.

The free dental screenings will be available on Thursday, August 8 and Monday, August 19 from 3-6 p.m. Held on the fifth floor at 110 North Iowa Avenue, there is no appointment necessary for the screenings. They will be performed on a first come, first serve basis.

If your child has already had a dental screening performed this summer, the dentist who performed it must complete a a Certificate of Dental Screening Form. Forms should be returned to the child’s school nurse. For the free screenings, parents and guardians are asked to only bring children who are required to get one. With questions, contact the I-Smile Coordinator at Washington County Public Health at 319-653-7758.
