The Washington County Auditor’s Office has announced a special election will take place Tuesday, September 10th and registered voters in Washington County who reside in the Pekin School District are eligible to vote.

The special election will allow voters to determine whether the future make-up of the Pekin Community School District Board will continue to consist of a combination of both at-large members and members from each of the five districts, or entirely on an at-large basis.

Beginning Wednesday, August 21st, eligible voters that reside in Washington County may vote by way of in-person absentee ballot at the Washington County Auditor’s Office located in the Washington County Courthouse, between the weekday hours of 8a.m. and 4:30p.m. The last day to vote by way of in-person absentee ballot is Monday, September 9th.

Also beginning Wednesday, August 21st, eligible voters that reside in Washington County may request an absentee ballot by mail. To request an absentee by ballot by mail, individuals must complete and return an absentee ballot request form to the Auditor’s Office. The form is available by contacting the Washington County Auditor’s Office in-person, by telephone at (319)653-7717 or on-line at either washingtoncounty.iowa.gov or sos.iowa.gov. Upon receipt of the completed request, a ballot will be mailed. The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is August 26th. In order to be counted, the ballot must be returned to the Washington County Auditor’s Office no later than 8p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, September 10th.
