The 10th biggest sports story at Mid-Prairie during the last school year comes to us from Dwight G. Sattler Field. The Golden Hawk football team put together a 4-4 regular season, finishing as 4-1, runners-up in Class 2A District 5. That earned them a first round playoff matchup at home with 4-4 Northeast Goose Lake.

The Hawks ripped the Rebels in a 49-18 postseason win. The Hawks led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a flea-flicker touchdown from Brady Weber to Dylan Henry, a Hudson Ehrenfelt touchdown run and a Weber to Cobi Hershberger scoring strike. Weber and Ehrenfelt each had a rushing score in the second to drive the Golden Hawk lead to 35-6 at half. After the break, it was the Hawks that owned the skies with Weber throwing touchdowns to Kaden Kos and Hershberger’s second scoring catch. Mid-Prairie won the total yards battle 428-272. Weber’s six touchdowns, five through the air and one on the ground, tied the school record for a single game. Ehrenfelt had 194 all-purpose yards and two scores, Hershberger caught two touchdowns. Kos and Henry each had one. Peyton Fox had an interception. Mid-Prairie saw the season end the next week in the second round at PCM 36-0, wrapping up the year 5-5 overall.

The Golden Hawks finished in the top 10 of Class 2A in 21 different individual and team offensive and defensive categories. Mid-Prairie made the top 10 in school history in four different season statistical categories. Ten Hawks were named All-District including Dylan Henry, Jarron Thomas, Grady Miller, Brady Weber, Landon Kos, Hudson Ehrenfelt, Kaden Kos, Lukin Rediger, Parker Ehrenfelt and Conner Wiles. Hudson Ehrenfelt was named District Offensive MVP. Dylan Henry, Brady Weber, Hudson Ehrenfelt and Kaden Kos all finished in the top 10 of the school record books.

The Hawks said goodbye to 12 seniors, Landon Sullivan, Landon Fox, Dylan Henry, Lukin Rediger, Jarron Thomas, Case Whetstine, Jack Greiner, Kurt Schneider, Parker Ehrenfelt, Jackson Miller, Grady Miller and Beau Flynn.

Our countdown continues Tuesday with our ninth biggest story, which takes us to Paul N. Bailey Field for baseball.
