Our countdown of the top 10 stories in Hillcrest Academy sports in the last year starts on the softball diamond where the Ravens took another step forward with their program. For the first time since the Ravens started playing softball in 1984, they finished with a winning record in league play, posting an 8-7 mark in the South Iowa Superconference. The Ravens scored sweeps over Winfield-Mt. Union, Pekin, WACO and Columbus.
Four Ravens were named to All-Conference teams with junior Malia Yoder a first-team selection, junior Delaney Shaw a second team choice and junior Morgyn Nafziger and sophomore Claire Withrow selected honorable mention. Yoder was also named Class 1A All-Southeast District by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and is the first Raven ever to be selected to an All-State Team, earning honorable mention 1A honors this year.
Hillcrest finished the season with a 12-14 overall record. Our countdown continues tomorrow when our ninth biggest story takes us to the golf course.
