A local 4-H exhibitor will be under the bright lights on the big stage this weekend in Des Moines. Kate Totemeier of Columbus Junction has been chosen to participate in the 42nd Annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show Saturday at the Iowa State Fair. Totemeier, a member of the Cloverleaf 4-H Club in Louisa County, is sponsored by the District 20 Cattlemen’s Association and Louisa County Cattlemen. She will show a steer named ZZ. The Columbus Junction 12-year-old, will be joined in the ring by a celebrity showman, Iowa State University two-time NCAA National Champion wrestler David Carr. She has already raised more than $41,000 for the event. This year there are 24 total participants.

Last year’s event raised over a half million dollars and since its inception in 1983, the Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer show has raised over $5 million. Proceeds are donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa. The show will begin at 4:30p.m. Saturday in the Livestock Pavilion on the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines with the sale at 5:30p.m. in the Penningroth Media Center.
