The fifth biggest sports story at Mid-Prairie from last season takes us to the wrestling mat where the Golden Hawks girls found postseason success.

At the first ever River Valley Conference Championship meet, the Golden Hawks finished third of 12 teams at Anamosa. Mid-Prairie was led by a trio of conference runners-up including Austyn Sexton at 115lbs, Ashlee Farrier at 130lbs and Ellie Brenneman at 135lbs. Adeline Huston, Mardie Berry and Sam Stacey all finished fourth.

At the SuperRegional meet at HyVee Hall in Des Moines, the Hawks placed seventh of 27 teams with their overall score of 110 points. Three Golden Hawks qualified for State, including third place finishers Ashlee Farrier at 130 and Ellie Brenneman at 135 and fourth place finisher Ellie Callahan at 170. This was Brenneman’s third trip to the State meet, while Farrier and Callahan earned bids for the second time in their careers.

At the State meet at Xtream Arena in Coralville, each Golden Hawk won at least one match on the big stage. Brenneman and Farrier both posted 2-2 records, Callahan finished 1-2.
