A mid-August traffic stop has led to several charges against a Wayland man. Just after 10p.m. August 10th, Washington Police initiated a traffic stop on a blue, 2001 Ford Ranger, driven by 29-year-old Thomas Duane Morris, which was observed driving the wrong way on a one way street, near South Iowa Avenue and West Jefferson Street in Washington. After stopping the vehicle, Morris exited the truck and started questioning the officer about why he was being pulled over and refused to get back in the truck. He admitted to driving with a suspended license. As a result of the stop, Morris was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Methamphetamine, Third Offense, a Class D Felony, Felon Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, a Class D Felony, Possession of Controlled Substance Marijuana Third Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor, and Interference With Official Acts, a Simple Misdemeanor. Morris was remanded to the Washington County Jail.
Once in custody, Keokuk County Officials reported having a warrant for Morris for Violation of Probation on a charge of Stalking Using a Technological Device, Second Offense, a Class D Felony, from a July 2023 case in which he sent several messages and emails threatening the victim and her family and friends. Morris is currently in custody in the Washington County Jail on $7500 bond.
