August 15th, Former Iowa State Representative for District 85, Democrat Christina Bohannan, traveled to southeast Iowa as part of a “Water Quality and Recreation Listening Tour”. Bohannan’s stop at Mac Coon’s Access near Lockridge gave her an opportunity to hear from local officials including Henry County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner Jeff Olson and Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner Rachel Engwall. Bohannan spoke with KCII News after the presentation about the goal of her tour.

Bohannan said, “I’ve talked to a lot of farmers who are doing regenerative agriculture. It’s so exciting to see, the new ideas and innovations. So what, I want to learn is how I can help when I’m in Congress. I grew up in a family of farmers. My Grandparents were farmers. We had a plot and imminent domain and the interstate came right through it and broke up and our land and ultimately we couldn’t make it work. So for me, this is really personal. I’m talking to people about how we can make farming more profitable in Iowa and improve our water quality at the same time.”

The former Representative also made stops at Lake Belva Deer near Sigourney, the Oskaloosa Wastewater Treatment Plant and Wolf Farm near Keosauqua as part of the tour. Bohannan is challenging incumbent Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks in the race for United States Representative in District 1 this fall.
