U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke to KCII News about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, and Secret Service Director “First of all, it reminds me of legislation I should have gotten passed a few years ago. And I don’t even know if I can get it passed this time, but it is a little more urgent at this time. That we have the Secret Service Director confirmed by the United States Senate. Today, just the White House decides who is going to be the Secret Service Director, and they obviously vet to some extent, but not the extent that a couple committees on Capitol Hill and our staff would do vetting the person. And would have to get a majority vote in the United States Senate, so that’s what I’m proposing. US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle tendered her resignation on July 23rd amid scrutiny of security lapses related to the assassination attempt on July 13th in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
