The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team had their first live action of the year Friday at West Liberty for their annual season opening scrimmage. Unofficially, the Golden Hawks were a 30-12 winner. The Hawks got two scores on the ground with Hudson Ehrenfelt posting a 56 yard touchdown run and Ryan Henry a six yard scoring scamper. Through the air, Brooks Weber tossed a pair of 65-yard touchdowns, one to Cash Brown and one to Nolan Jergens. Brown also threw a TD to Kendrick Kos. On defense, Kaden Kos led the way with five tackles, two for loss while Brown and Mac Yoder each had a pick. Following the night, head coach Daren Lambert shared with KCII Sports what stood out most to him.

Lambert said, “We kept it pretty simple tonight. I thought we moved the ball well, through the air and on the ground. Guys were making cuts and making the right reads. Tempo was good. On the next series we got a lot of guys in. Scout team players, and they get a live look at someone else. Guys stepped up. I was pleased on the offensive end. I thought we rallied to the football extremely well, especially when our ones were out there on defense. I thought we were making great reads, we competed extremely well, got our hands on the ball on a couple of pass plays. Assignment-wise it looked like we were pretty clean and that’s a step forward. Guys are flying to the football, not thinking so much and just reacting, and that’s what you want.”

The Hawks officially open the season Friday when they travel to Wilton to take on the Beavers. You can hear all of the action live on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and the KCII2 App, beginning with the Football Friday Preview Show at 6p.m. The Golden Hawk Football pregame show at 6:30 and kickoff between the Golden Hawks and Beavers at 7p.m.
