A busy start to the season continues Tuesday for the No. 6 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team when they travel to Vinton-Shellsburg for a triangular with Independence and the home Vikettes. The Hawks are fresh off of a 5-0 weekend where they won the tournament championship at Central Lee by scoring victories over Durant, Centerville, West Burlington, Burlington and Keokuk.

This year the Hawks have 229 kills, 217 assists, a ,288 kill efficiency, 39 blocks, 329 digs and 49 aces. Individual leaders include Jovi Evans with 88 assists, ninth in 3A, 70 kills, second in 3A and a .345 kill efficiency, third in 3A. Dakota Mitchell has a team best 92 digs, third most in 3A with 14 aces, also third in 3A, and Brylee Gearhart leads with 11 blocks, fifth most in 3A.

Indepedence is 2-2 this season with wins over West Delaware and Union and losses to Osage and Alburnett. Vinton-Shellsburg is 2-1, having beaten Benton and Midland with a loss to Anamosa.

Action starts tonight at 5p.m. and continues into the evening at Vinton-Shellsburg High School.
