The Highland Huskies play their first home game of the high school football season tomorrow night against Danville, and they’re riding high in Riverside. A 26-0 victory over North Cedar means Highland has now won three straight games going back to last season after losing 15 straight prior.

Senior quarterback Sage Hartley-Norman is coming off 91 rushing yards and two touchdowns last week, as well as a TD pass. Sophomore Jose Ramirez also had a solid Week One on the ground, running for 82 yards and a score on just 11 carries.

Coming off a strong junior season at linebacker where he led the team in total tackles, tackles for loss and sacks, Logan McFarland’s debut in 2024 was a sharp one as well, piling up a team-high nine total stops.

Fellow senior Colten Sypherd was also all over the field, coming up with six-and-a-half total tackles, two tackles for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery.

The Huskies are battling a Danville team that fell in its opener but up a game effort in a 30-22 defeat to Lynnville-Sully. QB Jaden Bauer threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns against the Hawks, coming off a junior season where he completed over 57 percent of his passes for over 1,300 yards.

Fellow senior Kessler Whaley, last year’s top receiver with nearly 600 yards, eight TDs and 27 yards per reception, had a big Week One for the Bears with four catches for 110 yards and two scores. Highland kicks things off with Danville starting tomorrow evening at 7 o’clock.
