The Lone Tree Lion football team got into the win column for the first time in 2024 last week, blasting Meskwaki Settlement School 50-6. The Lions pounced early, putting up 34 points in the first quarter to take command. They would add on in each of the next three frames to lead 41-0 at half and 43-0 after three. The Lions had 376 total yards, 283 in the ground game, averaging better than eight yards per carry. They recorded six tackles for loss and forced five Warrior turnovers.

Maddox Jondle had a breakout game with 11 carries for 193 yards and a hat trick of touchdowns, his longest a 53 yard sprint. Emmett Burke accounted for five touchdowns on the night, two on the ground on four carries for 37 yards and another pair through the air where he was a perfect three of three for 74 yards. Domonic Garcia grabbed a touchdown, as part of his two catch 61 yard night, and Reece Holbrook hauled in a score. Brody Magruder led the defense with nine tackles and a fumble recovery. Burke picked off two passes and scooped up a fumble, Jondle also had a pick.

The win evens the Lion’s record at 1-1, while Meskwaki falls to 0-2. Lone Tree is next in action Friday when they face Midland on the road.
