Both the Sigourney Savages and WACO Warriors suffered losses on the volleyball court Tuesday night. Sigourney came up just short in a five-set thriller at North Mahaska.

The Savages won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-21, but they could not put away the home team, and after the Warhawks claimed the next two frames 25-15 and 25-17, they would win the tie-breaking fifth set 15-2 as well.

Senior Josephine Moore led Sigourney with nine kills and 23 digs, while sophomore teammate Bailey Gretter did it all with six kills, six assists, 17 digs and a serving ace.

Senior middle hitter Reagan Clarahan added five kills and three blocked shots, while senior setter Taylor Rozenboom handed out 15 assists as the Savages suffer a rare setback and drop their record to 7-2.

WACO fell in straight sets against conference rival Wapello, losing each of the first two frames by a score of 25-9. While the Warriors kept things close down the stretch, the Arrows would also take the third set 25-20.

In addition to losing their first match of the season in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference, WACO’s overall record falls to 5-8. The Warriors will now take on conference rival Winfield-Mount Union in their next match this evening.
