The Highland Huskies are looking to get back in the win column when they travel to face Van Buren County tonight in Class A football. After shutting out North Cedar in a season-opening win, Highland came up just short against Danville last week.

The defense has nonetheless been outstanding for the Huskies, yielding only 14 total points in two games and allowing under 240 yards gained per contest. Logan McFarland’s 16-and-a-half tackles are a team high, while fellow senior Isaac Kleese is living in the opponent’s backfield with four tackles for loss and two sacks.

Kleese has also recovered a fumble, one of six takeaways for the Highland defense. The offense is powered by the running game, with senior Sage Hartley-Norman piling up over 160 yards and three touchdowns on the ground while also averaging six yards per carry.

Highland will be taking on a VBC squad that has scored only eight points in their two losses this season, but the Warriors did beat the Huskies 28-22 a year ago. The action kicks off from Keosauqua this evening starting at 7 o’clock.
