The Columbus Wildcat football team came up short at Lisbon Friday night 49-6. Columbus got a rushing touchdown from senior Riley Kaalberg to only trail the fourth-ranked team in the state in Class A by a point after one quarter, but the Lions would shut them down from there, building an impressive 28-6 lead by halftime.

Kaalberg led the Wildcat offense with 101 yards on 25 carries and also had a team-high five tackles for the defense. Fellow senior Markell Zapiensz had four total stops and two tackles for loss as Columbus drops to 1-1 in their district and 1-2 overall. The ‘Cats will try to bounce back by going on the road this coming Friday and facing Pekin.
