The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves suffered their first conference defeat of the volleyball season last night at Wapello. WMU was beaten in the first set 25-17 but would hang tough in the second frame. Unfortunately, Wapello would eek out the 26-24 win and then take the third set 25-16 as well for a clean sweep.
Freshman Kynlee Buffington led Winfield-Mount Union with eight kills and three blocked shots, while junior Kellee Milks had five kills, two blocks and 17 digs.
Senior Josie Nelson added three kills and 16 digs, while junior Quin Smith came up with a pair of blocks in the middle. Junior setter Madisen Kellogg handed out 14 assists but was also an all-around force, posting two kills, two blocks, four digs and a serving ace.
The loss drops the Wolves to 3-1 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 8-4 overall. WMU will look to bounce back next week at this year’s Super Conference Tournament.
