Severe weather greeted the day Friday across the KCII listening area. Just before 3:30a.m. an initial Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for portions of Washington, Keokuk, Jefferson and Henry Counties until 4:15a.m. That warning was extended to 4:45a.m. when another severe cell moved through the area. Radar indicated threats with these storms included inch in diameter hail and 50 mile per hour wind gusts.
Trained weather spotters reported quarter-sized hail in Brighton in Washington County and Sigourney in Keokuk County. Washington, Brighton, Wayland, Crawfordsville and Olds all received one inch of rainfall between three and five Friday morning. Two members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team responded with live coverage on-air. Had the power gone out, coverage would have continued live on KCII with our backup generators. The forecast for the rest of Friday calls for sunshine with a 75 degree high and clear conditions with a low of 55 tonight. The one to count on for up to the minute severe weather coverage is AM and FM KCII.
