The Lone Tree Lions picked up a conference volleyball victory Thursday night at Pekin. After losing the first set 25-19, Lone Tree won the second 25-20 and stayed in front from there, taking the final two frames 25-21 and 25-17.

Middle hitter Cate Sexton had team highs of 10 kills and three blocked shots for the Lions, while fellow senior Avery Morarie had eight kills and Rylee Shield put up five kills, five digs, one block and one serving ace.

Junior Alyson Ford added three kills and two blocks, while senior Madison Floyd had six kills and an ace and setter Hayden Yoder handed out 29 assists as Lone Tree improves to 2-4 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 8-14 overall.

The Highland Huskies would not have the same good fortune Thursday, taking a straight-sets loss at Wapello. Highland dropped the opening frame 25-12 and would fight hard in the second set, but they would suffer a 25-22 defeat and would drop the third set as well, 25-11.

Senior Adeline Krotz had six kills and a block to lead the Huskies, while sophomore Hailey Brun added five kills and six digs. Freshman Ava Sexton had two kills and four digs to go with the eight assists she handed out, while fellow setter Laney Skelton posted three kills, nine assists and seven digs.

The loss is Highland’s first of the season in the Super Conference North as they drop to 16-11. While the Huskies next play Tuesday at home against Winfield-Mount Union, Lone Tree will next host WACO on Tuesday evening.
