The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves rolled to a 68-8 victory over Mormon Trail on their home football field Friday night. WMU rode a big night from its offense, piling up 378 total yards.

Quarterback Jake Edwards had a near flawless night for Winfield-Mount Union, completing six of seven passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Fellow senior Lane Genkinger caught two of those TDs while also rushing for three scores, finishing the night with four carries for 99 yards and three receptions for another 97 yards.

Sophomore Tayson Samuels added two catches for 57 yards and a touchdown, while junior Nic Sparrow carried the ball seven times for 73 yards.

Senior Cooper Buffington led the Wolves’ defense with five total tackles and two tackles for loss, while Sparrow and Edwards each returned an interception for a TD and each had two total picks.

The win raises WMU’s record to 4-3. Winfield-Mount Union will look to finish off the regular season with a victory and secure a playoff berth when they travel to HLV this coming Friday.
