Absentee voting for the 2024 Washington County general election will begin on October 16. Voters who want to vote by absentee ballot may do so in person at the Washington County Auditor’s Office before Tuesday, November 5. Alternatively, a ballot can be mailed to a voter if they have filled out and submitted a request form. Several organizations may be sending Absentee Ballot Request forms to registered voters and any of those forms may be used. KCII News spoke with Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer to get more information about absentee voting, “I would recommend that if it’s getting down to the wire, and voters are questioning whether there’s still time to mail there ballots so that it reaches the Auditor’s office before that 8 pm on election day deadline. That voters simply drop their ballots off in the Auditor’s office.”  Requests for absentee ballots may be submitted up to 70 days prior to an election. However, ballots cannot be mailed out until 20 days before an election, which is October 16th. The ballot request form may also be obtained from the Washington County Auditor’s Office or the following websites: washingtoncounty.iowa.gov or sos.iowa.gov.
