The Washington Demons lost their final home game of the football season 42-21 to Mount Vernon Friday. Washington saw Mount Vernon score a touchdown on each of their first three possessions, and a Hail Mary pass for a TD as time expired in the second quarter capped a first half where the Mustangs passed for over 240 yards and built a 42-7 lead.
Despite early offensive struggles, the Demons made some plays in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Logan McDole orchestrated a drive that ended in a 13-yard touchdown run by the senior, and he hooked up with Conner Leyden for a 46-yard TD pass as well.
McDole finished with 203 yards through the air but also threw three interceptions. Leyden had six total catches for 80 yards. The loss drops Washington to 5-3. The Demons will look to finish up the regular season with a win against conference rival Fort Madison next Friday.
