In one word, domination. The #8 in Class 1A Sigourney-Keota Cobras celebrated senior night on Friday night in a big way after throttling the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets by a final score of 79-6.

The scoring frenzy got started right off the bat, with senior tailback Isaac Bruns breaking off a quick 60-yard touchdown run to make things an early 7-0 not even a minute into the contest. After the Cobras forced an EBF punt, they decided they wouldn’t stop there, scoring on the third play of the next drive off of a Brayden Wood to Brady Clark pass connection that hit six from 64 yards out. That pass connection would start a string of four straight one play drives that all ended in the end zone from 45, 19, and 65 yards away. The Rockets found the end zone once the entire night, and that moment came in the first quarter when Cayel Riley bullied his way into the end zone from 14 yards away on a simple off tackle run to the left on fourth and eight. After that drive, the Cobras got back to what they did best Friday night: Scoring. The snakes added on 13 more points before the quarter was over to take a commanding 46-6 lead into the second. In that second frame, S/K spinback Wood was able to find a gaping hole in the Rocket defense to score again from 11 yards out, and the Cobras decided to add a little defense to their offense when Clark made a house call after picking off a Dalton Brinegar pass to make it 60-6 by the end of the half. Chase Haifley also picked off a Brinegar pass before the half. Three more different Cobras found pay dirt before the game went final, as a two-yard Blake Baker run, an 80-yard pass from Jacob Libe to Ayden Galindo, and a 61-yard dash from Aydin Flowers all went for scores.

Unofficially, S/K won the yardage contest 667-106, including a lopsided victory in the rushing battle 478-56. Brayden Wood finished as the leading passer, completing two of three passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Wood also rushed three times for 64 yards and two more TD’s. Already over 2,000 rushing yards on the season, Isaac Bruns pushed his season rushing yards tally even higher, adding 192 yards on seven carries and also adding three scores. Every completed pass for the Cobras went for a touchdown, and in addition to Ayden Galindo and Brady Clark, Caden Clarahan also hauled in a touchdown reception from 45 yards away. Chase Clarahan and Aidan Greiner led the S/K defense with five tackles each. EBF was led by Dalton Brinegar’s 5/19 night for just 42 yards. Cayel Riley had 11 carries for 35 yards and the lone Rocket touchdown.

With the win, Sigourney-Keota finishes the regular season 7-1 and an unbeaten 5-0 champion of Class 1A District 6 ahead of the first round of the playoffs next week. EBF finishes their regular season 2-6 overall and 2-3 in district play after the loss ahead of their playoff matchup next week. The KCII Area Game of the Week will return next Friday when the playoffs begin across classes 8-Man through 2A.
