The Columbus Wildcats are moving on in the high school volleyball playoffs after taking down Danville last night in the first round of the Class 2A Region 3 tournament.
Columbus won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-18, and even when Danville extended the match by taking the third frame 25-23, the Wildcats got right back to work and won the fourth set 25-19 to claim the match.
13 kills from Jessica Del Rio was a team best for Columbus, while fellow junior Audrey Hoback had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Junior Kennedy Woepking added nine kills and 26 digs, while junior Jocelyn Hernandez added four kills and two serving aces to her team-high 30 digs.
Junior setter Daniela Diaz dished out 36 assists while also picking up two aces and six digs as the Wildcats raise their record to 11-16. Columbus moves on to the Region 3 quarterfinals Wednesday night, where they’ll take on West Burlington.
