Two local volleyball teams had their seasons come to an end Monday, as the Highland Huskies fell to North Cedar and the WACO Warriors lost to Burlington Notre Dame in the first round of the Class 1A Region 2 tournament.

Highland dropped the first set at home 25-17, and while they bounced back to take the second frame 25-22, North Cedar edged them out in the third set 25-22 and would clip the Huskies again to win the fourth set 25-23 and take the match.

Despite the loss, sophomore Hailey Brun still had a double-double for Highland with a team-high 10 kills and 15 digs. Senior Adeline Krotz added eight kills and one blocked shot, while freshman Ava Sexton had six kills, two blocks and two serving aces.

Senior setter Laney Skelton handed out 22 assists to go with 11 digs and a block as the season comes to end for the Huskies with a record of 17-13. Highland will lose six seniors after this year, including Krotz, Skelton, Lilly Barre, Hailey Nester, Haile Hoppman and Katie Herrig.

WACO would lose the first set at Burlington Notre Dame 25-22, and they would never be able to recover, dropping the next two frames 25-14 and 25-17.

Sophomore Carlee Lunsford had six kills to pace the Warriors, while senior Ella Huisenga had an ace and 15 digs and sophomore Drew Graber came up with four kills, five digs and a block.

Junior Morgan Meyer dished 13 assists to go with two aces and five digs, while sophomore Kinsey Hildebrand also had five digs and added eight assists. The season ends for WACO with an 8-19 record. The Warriors will say good-bye to seniors like Huisenga, Peyton Graber, Cayton Coakley and Ally Rinner.
