The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls cross country teams take their shot at State today at the Pella Christian Class 2A State Qualifier meet. The Golden Hawks have been off since last week’s River Valley Conference Championship meet in Iowa City where they swept the boys and girls team titles, placing 13 of 14 total runners on All-Conference teams, with head coach Mark Hostetler named RVC Coach of the Year. In this week’s rankings issued by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches, the Golden Hawk boys check in as the No. 1 team in the land in 2A. The Mid-Prairie girls are No. 2 in the most recent 2A poll. Individually, Mid-Prairie has five total ranked runners in their lineup according to the IATC, including No. 10 Brooklyn Stutzman, No. 11 Emmett Swartzentruber, No. 22 Rachel Hostetler, No. 25 Preston Yutzy and No. 29 Kendal Landstrum.
Joining the Golden Hawks at today’s meet are the No. 11 Anamosa boys and their girls, Centerville, Davis County, Eddyville-Blakesburg, the No. 18 Grundy Center girls and their boys, Hudson, Manson Northwest Webster, the No. 18 Mediapolis boys and their girls, Pocohontas Area, Southeast Valley, West Marshall, Woodward-Granger and the home No. 7 Eagle girls and their boys. There are a total of 16 ranked runners in the field. Action starts at 4p.m. and continues into the evening in Pella.
