On Wednesday, at approximately 4:14 pm, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle incident with the roadway blocked at Dogwood Ave. and Hwy. 22, near Wellman, in rural Washington County. Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2015, Chrysler 200 operated by Patricia Butumbi had been stopped southbound on Dogwood Ave, then proceeded onto Hwy. 22, and was struck in the front, passenger side by a 2006, Dodge Durango traveling eastbound operated by Richard Harvey. The car was totaled and came to rest within the roadway. The Durango was also totaled and came to rest in the south ditch.
Harvey was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Butumbi was charged with failure to yield upon entering a through highway, resulting in personal injury. Responding to the scene were the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington County Ambulance Service, Wellman Fire Department, Wellman QRS, Wellman Rescue, and Bulltown Towing.
