The Washington County Board of Supervisors rejected a secondary road assessment district for a portion of 140th street South of Riverside Tuesday. After a discussion about responsibility of the road improvements and the cost of improvements, which were estimated by Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius to be just under $450,000, Supervisor Richard Young had this to say on the matter, “Well I’m against it. Those people knew when they built houses there, they were on a gravel road. So why all of a sudden now, it needs to be paved? Yah I’m against paving it. If they want it paved then they should come to us with one hundred percent of the cost, and we cannot be giving them zero percent interest. Because of the budget. They should go borrow the money and pave the road.” The Supervisors voted 5-0 to reject the petition stating that the HOA of the development should cover the entire cost of the improvements. The improvements included paving a quarter-mile stretch of the road, and gravel improvements for another quarter-mile of 140th street.
