In a memo posted on the City of Washington website, the city will no longer accept glass in recycling. Glass cannot be placed into recycling due to safety reasons at Recycling Centers. They ask that all glass be placed into trash totes. In a single stream recycling system, glass is increasingly becoming the contaminant. Broken glass can contaminate other recyclables like paper and cardboard, lowering their value when recycled.
