The Washington County Board of Supervisors heard from Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius at their Tuesday meeting. Thorius brought concerns about the design fees for the planned construction of the Secondary Roads Department building. “So last week, we received a call from the Auditors Office, asking for the account number to pay for the design fees for the work related to my building. It caught my office and myself off guard because I understood, this whole process was the county was covering all of the design fees for all of the design work for all of the buildings, and we were covering the cost of the building. So the change, I didn’t know about it, and I don’t understand what’s going on. If there’s a change I need to work on my budget a little bit. Last year was roughly $19,000 and another $14,000 to be paid. Today with a rough estimate of $60,000 already on top of that, with some bills that need to be finalized.” After discussion, it was determined that more information would be needed, and the County Treasurer Jeff Garrett would bring more information to the next meeting.
