The Hillcrest Academy Raven girls basketball team looks to make it back-to-back wins to start the new campaign Tuesday when they host Cedar Valley Christian. The Ravens opened with a win at Moravia Friday 58-39 where they led by 19 at half. Hillcrest hit eight threes as a team, six of them from leading scorer Claire Withrow en route to her 24 points. Malia Yoder had a double double with 17 points and 10 boards. Niva Helmuth finished with eight steals, Hillcrest had 24 as a team and forced 33 total turnovers.
Cedar Valley Christian is 0-1 on the year after a loss in their opener Monday at Starmont 43-32. The Huskies were winless in 16 games last year, finishing 0-12 in the Tri-Rivers Conference. They scored 17 points per game and gave up 63, shooting 18% from the floor, 17% from three and 37% at the line with 15 boards, two assists, five steals and 20 turnovers per game. They return leader Jorja Lillis and her five points per game. They have to replace steals and rebounds leader Brianna Jessen lost to graduation.
These two teams met a season ago with the Ravens rolling on the road 53-21, with 24 points from Claire Withrow and 13 for Malia Yoder as Delaney Shaw grabbed nine boards. Kylie Lown had five points to lead the Huskies. Action starts tonight at 6:30p.m. At Hillcrest Union.
