
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks got another excellent showing from their girls’ wrestling team Monday at the West Liberty Invitational, finishing second in team scoring and only trailing the champions from Fort Madison by six points.
Leading the way for Mid-Prairie was Ashlee Farrier, who continued her undefeated start to the season as the champion at 130 pounds. The senior had a pin in the quarterfinals before winning by technical knockout in the semis and defeating Kiley Collins of West Liberty by an 8-0 major decision in the finals.
Ellie Callahan also won a tournament title for the Golden Hawks at 170 lbs by pinning all three of her opponents, while fellow junior Saylee Gingerich finished second at 190.
Sophomore Austyn Sexton took third for the Hawks at 115, as did senior Gabby Gingerich at 120, while sophomores Ruby Miller and Emmerson Moore were fifth at 110 and 135, respectively, as were juniors Mardie Berry and Cassie Trimpe at 145 and 155, respectively.
The Washington Demons also took part in the competition in West Liberty. Senior Peggy Miller pinned her first opponent and won a 8-1 decision in the semifinals before losing a 1-0 decision to finish runner-up at 135 lbs. Sophomore Ryha Wellington also finished third at 140 for the Demons.
