The Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association’s State Dance Championships will be held on December 4th through 6th. There are multiple area schools that qualified, including Lone Tree, Mid-Prairie, Wapello, WACO, and Highland. Entering its 48th year, Iowa hosts the largest state high school dance competition in the nation with 250+ high school teams and a total of more than 5,000 dancers performing more than 600 routines throughout the three-day competition. The state competition, held in Des Moines, includes performances in both Wells Fargo Arena and the Hy-Vee Hall. Panels of dance industry professionals and leaders from across the nation judge the teams competing in a variety of 15 categories. Champions of the state team competition are featured in a 90-minute televised championship show aired on Iowa PBS each year.
