The Columbus Wildcats swept a basketball doubleheader last night at home against North Cedar. The Columbus girls got the night started by building on an eight-point lead with a 20-2 run going into halftime, stretching their lead to 33-7 before going on to win 54-13.

Seniors Ariana Vergara and Lily Coil scored 14 points each to lead the Wildcats, while junior Isabel Rendon and senior Aracely Garza added eight points a piece to help Columbus remain a perfect 3-0.

The Wildcat boys got pushed to the brink, but they would come away with a 57-51 victory over North Cedar. Senior Juan Chairez had a big night for Columbus with a  double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Ellis Hills-Carrier added 11 points, six assists, four steals and two blocked shots, while Drake Marin poured in 11 points and fellow sophomore Fritz Figaro had 10 points and five rebounds to give the ‘Cats their first win of the season. Both Columbus teams will play again tonight at Hillcrest Academy.
