The Washington Demon boys’ wrestling team captured the championship at the Cascade Duals Tournament this weekend by winning four of their five team events.

Washington bounced back from losing 40-39 to North Linn in the preliminary stages by defeating Starmont 60-24 and knocking off Dubuque Wahlert Catholic 48-35. The Demons rolled past Clayton Ridge 72-12 in the semifinals before topping MFL MarMac in the finals 56-24.

Washington was led to victory by two different wrestlers who won a bout in every dual, as 138-pound senior Aaron Boone and 175-lbs sophomore Blaine Rees each won five times by fall.

Jude Carter also had five total wins and pinned his opponent three times at 144, while fellow senior Nate Edmonds won four times by knockout at 120 and sophomore Greyson Hartman had three pins at 215.

Winning twice by pin for the Demons was junior Rudy Wolfe at 285 and sophomores Joseph Schreiber and Mark Chenoweth at 106 and 165, respectively.

Edwin Cortes also had a pin at 126, while fellow junior Brayden Vermillion won a 15-8 decision at 190 to help Washington improve to 7-1 in duals so far this season. The Demons will next wrestle tomorrow night when they host a quadrangular of duals with Anamosa, Center Point-Urbana and Central Elkader.
