A multi-county pursuit ended in a two-vehicle wreck on Highway 218 Sunday afternoon and the driver had reportedly fired shots in Muscatine initially. A two-vehicle wreck occurred on Highway 218 Sunday afternoon after a multi-county pursuit and resulted in two fatalities. According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 3:51 p.m. the crash took place on Highway 218 near mile marker 78. A Nissan Rogue was involved in a pursuit and was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway. The Nissan hit a Ford Explorer head-on.
The driver of the Nissan died on impact. The driver of the Explorer died after life-saving measures were performed.
According to the Muscatine Police Department, at approximately 3:15 p.m. multiple reports were received of a female driving through Muscatine shooting at people. No individuals were hurt during the shooting incidents and an investigation is ongoing. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle along Park Avenue and the driver refused to yield. A pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle went out of Muscatine along 231st Street. During the pursuit, a Muscatine Police Officer lost control of his vehicle and crashed near the Cedar River. The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries. The officer was transported to the hospital.
The pursuit was picked up by additional law enforcement agencies as the suspect traveled through Louisa County and into Washington County.
The Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DNR, Washington County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Riverside Fire and QRS, Ainsworth Fire and EMS, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Muscatine Police Department, and Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office assisted with responding to the incident.
Names of those involved have not been released. KCII News will bring more information as it becomes official.
