A Southeast Conference rivalry is renewed on the basketball court tonight when the Washington Demons host Fairfield, and you can catch both games on KCII.

After winning their season opener, the Washington girls’ team has lost four straight, including a 48-37 defeat at Mediapolis, but now they can get back in the win column as they take on a Fairfield squad that is winless so far this season

Junior Adalyn Long has led the Demons by scoring nearly 12 points per game, but head coach Shannon Rugg says it will be the effort of his team that would allow them to pick up their first conference win of the season.

“This group comes to work,” Rugg says. “When we get into a rhythm and make a good pass, we can make some shots. We’re getting there.”

The Washington boys are 1-3 but can begin conference play 2-0 with a win this evening. A second-half rally from down by as much as 13 points got the Demons past Keokuk last Friday.

Junior Drew Conrad’s nearly 13 points per contest paces the squad, while senior Logan McDole and sophomore Nic Stone are combining for almost 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists a game.

Washington head coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports that his whole team will need to be at their best to get a crucial conference win and take down a 1-3 Fairfield team that also won its league opener.

“Everything with conference is [about how] you have to win at home and steal some on the road,” Stark said, “and that’s the blueprint to winning [the] conference

Both Demon teams swept their series with the Trojans last season. You can catch all the action as Washington meets Fairfield this evening with Demon basketball on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII1 app, starting with the Countdown to Tip-Off at 5:30.
