The Sigourney Savages secured a pair of conference basketball wins over Iowa Valley last night. A 20-2 run in the second quarter busted open an early 15-13 lead for the Sigourney girls, and the Savages pulled away even more after that in a 62-38 victory.
The Sigourney boys needed a 15-9 run to close out the first half in order to go in front 28-23, but Iowa Valley would hang around all game long, and the Savages would have to fend off the Tigers to win 57-54.
Both Sigourney teams were coming off wins Monday night at Cardinal as well. The Savages took a 39-26 lead by halftime of the girls’ game, and they would continue to dominate in the second half of a 76-45 victory. Two wins make their record 5-1, including a perfect 4-0 in the East division of the South Iowa Cedar League.
The Sigourney boys raced out to a 21-11 lead after a quarter of play against Cardinal and scored at least 20 points in each of the first three quarters on their way to winning 83-54. The Savages are now 4-1, including a 3-1 mark in conference play. Both Sigourney squads next play Friday against Montezuma.
