The Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union boys’ wrestling team won both of their team duals on the home mat last night, defeating Wapello 54-39 and knocking off Van Buren County 60-19.

The Wildcats were led by Kason Dopler, who won twice by fall at 175 pounds. Fellow junior Bowen Thomson also picked up a pin as part of two victories on the night at 138, while junior Trevor Phillips won a 4-2 decision at 190 lbs and freshman Dante Orozco claimed a 13-5 major decision at 126.

Columbus/WMU also got pins to win from junior Dakota Aney at 106; senior Jacob Nelson at 120; sophomore Tayson Samuels at 132; junior Alex Venzor at 144; senior Payton White at 285; and junior Jaiden Beeding at 150.

The WACO Warriors would not have the same good fortune, suffering a pair of dual losses at home last night. WACO fell to Burlington Notre Dame 56-20 and lost 42-39 to Mediapolis.

Senior Louden Husienga won twice at 190 lbs for the Warriors, once by technical knockout and another by pin. Senior Ty Rogers picked up a pair of pins at 215, while senior Gage Samo picked up a 3-0 overtime victory before earning a pin at 120.

Senior Lane Bachman had a pin at 138 for WACO, as did sophomore Tommy Unternahrer at 285. Senior Deacon Bird added a win in a 3-1 decision at 157. The Warriors head to Iowa City this weekend for the Regina Invitational, while Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union takes part in the Fort Madison Invitational today and tomorrow.
