The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves came up short in a pair of basketball battles against Mediapolis Thursday night at home. The WMU boys saw Mediapolis go on a 14-5 run to end the first half and build a 26-15 lead.
But, after getting within seven points going into the fourth quarter, a huge final period from Winfield-Mount Union on offense allowed them to tie the game at 43. Unfortunately, they could not quite overcome the Bulldogs in overtime and fell 51-47.
Cooper Buffington had a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Wolves, while fellow senior Jake Edwards did a little bit of everything with 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals, but it was not enough to keep WMU from dropping to 4-3.
The Winfield-Mount Union girls fell behind 23-10 after a quarter of play and could never catch up after to undefeated Mediapolis in a 77-34 loss. The Wolves see their record fall to 2-7.
