People can start the new year with fresh air and exercise by joining a First Day Hike at Lake Darling State Park. Park Ranger Zach Haworth says it is a nice opportunity to start 2025 on a positive note, “You know, it’s a great time of year to visit the park. Sometimes folks don’t think about coming out to the state park in the winter time, but it really is a very good time of year to view wildlife. It’s just a very peaceful time of year out at the park, there’s not as much traffic, things aren’t as busy and you can really enjoy, and have a good experience out here. And it’s just starting off the new year, you know folks have different goals for the new year – just get outside, experience nature, and get some exercise in at the same time.”
The hike will be nearly 1.5 miles long with moderate intensity on paved trails. People will have the option to turn back early or to extend their hike further, depending on their preference. Meet at the Lake Darling Lodge to join the group starting the new year at the local State Park with the hike kicking off at 9 a.m. on January 1st.
